Analysis:

The AMD Ryzen 5 3400G is a great CPU for its $259 asking price.

The AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, however, while a reasonable product for $289, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering CPUs in the $310 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The AMD Ryzen 5 3400G was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best CPUs for Gaming in 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Gaming on Integrated Graphics Only (on Socket AM4)", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at Techradar, Tech Advisor, PCmag, and TechSpot enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.

We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like PCmag and TechSpot, and learned that they all showed a preference for the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X.

Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two CPUs received. We found that the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G managed to earn a rating of 9 from Windows Central, whereas the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X got its highest, 10, score from reviewers at Techradar.
