Apple iPad (2019) vs Microsoft Surface Pro 2017

Analysis:

The Apple iPad (2019) is an exemplary product and sets the bar for all other Pen Computers at the $320 budget.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 2017, however, is merely passable for its price. We suggest taking a look at some better options if you're considering buying a Pen Computer in the $530 range.

The Apple iPad (2019) has done great in quite a few roundups from some of the most highly trusted sources available, such as Wirecutter (NYTimes), Laptop Mag, PCmag, and CNET, which perform high-quality in-depth testing. It got awarded the "Top Pick" title by Wirecutter (NYTimes), "The best tablet for most people" by Laptop Mag, and "Best for Budget-Friendly Apple Tablet" by PCmag in their respective roundups. Earning that much praise from such respected sources is undoubtedly an impressive accomplishment.

Moving on to the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017: it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like Techradar, hardwarezone.com.sg, CNET, The Verge, Tech Advisor, and Expert Reviews, enough for them to include them on those lists.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Pen Computers, Pocket-lint, Tech Advisor, and T3 preferred the Apple iPad (2019), whereas reviewers at The Verge liked the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 better. Techradar, hardwarezone.com.sg, CNET, and Expert Reviews gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Apple iPad (2019) rating came from What Hi-Fi?, whereas the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 most impressed reviewers at Techradar; they earned scores of 10 and 9, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Pen Computers on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Pen Computers being 7.7 out of 10, whereas the Apple iPad (2019) and Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 managed averages of 8.6 and 8.1 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Apple iPad (2019) vs. Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
