While the Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus (2017) wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. Techradar, Laptop Mag, TrustedReviews, Expert Reviews, and Android Authority have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.
Moving on to the Apple iPad mini 5 (2019): it was well-received by reviewers from numerous sources that perform their own objective hands-on testing, including The Spruce, techadvisor.com, creativebloq.com, PhoneArena, iMore, and Macworld. It did great in their roundups - it was named "Best Tablet for e-reading" by The Spruce, "Ranked 2 out of 6" by techadvisor.com, and "Ranked 3 out of 8" by creativebloq.com. That alone points toward it being worthy of consideration.
Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Tablets, Techradar preferred the Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus (2017), whereas reviewers at TrustedReviews and Expert Reviews liked the Apple iPad mini 5 (2019) better. Laptop Mag gave them identical review scores.
We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus (2017) rating came from Techradar, whereas the Apple iPad mini 5 (2019) most impressed reviewers at What Hi-Fi?; they earned scores of 9 and 10, respectively.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Tablets on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Tablets being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus (2017) and Apple iPad mini 5 (2019) managed averages of 7.8 and 8.4 points, respectively.
Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus (2017) vs. Apple iPad mini 5 (2019) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
