Samsung Galaxy S7 (2016) vs Apple iPhone XR (2018)

Analysis:

While the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) makes for a fairly good Smartphone for people with a $270 budget, we weren't able to find enough data on the Apple iPhone XR to come to any reliable conclusions.

In either case, we suggest that you look at some other options at the $270 and $620 budget ranges before committing to one of these.

If you'd nonetheless like to learn more about the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) and Apple iPhone XR, however, we wrote a summary of what we know about them:

While the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. Expert Reviews, Techradar, TechSpot, GSMArena, Android Authority, CNET, TrustedReviews, Tom's Guide, PCmag, PhoneArena, and DXOMARK have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.

Moving on to the Apple iPhone XR: it did great in a number of roundups that were conducted by sources that perform their own hands-on testing, such as Android Central, CNET, and Techradar - it was dubbed "Best for iOS" by Android Central, "Best budget iPhone" by CNET, and "The best iPhone for those looking for great battery life" by Techradar, which indicates that it's worthy of consideration.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Smartphones, Pocket-lint, Techradar, CNET, and PCmag preferred the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016), whereas reviewers at Digitaltrends liked the Apple iPhone XR better. Expert Reviews, What Hi-Fi?, TrustedReviews, Tom's Guide, and PhoneArena gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) rating came from Expert Reviews, whereas the Apple iPhone XR most impressed reviewers at Expert Reviews; they earned scores of 10 and 10, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) and Apple iPhone XR managed averages of 9.0 and 8.8 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) vs. Apple iPhone XR comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
