Google Wifi (2016) vs ASUS RT-AC68U

The Google Wifi (2016) is one of the very best Wi-Fi Routers that one can get for around $55. The ASUS RT-AC68U, however, while a very good choice at its $140 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Google Wifi (2016) got praised by TechGearLab and PCmag - two highly trusted sources that perform in-depth hands-on testing. It was awarded the "Bargain Option for Google Smart Homes" title from TechGearLab and "Ranked 1 out of 3" from PCmag in their respective Wi-Fi Router roundups.

As for our analysis of the ASUS RT-AC68U - it's considered to be a great product by two reliable sources that do their own hands-on testing - it earned the "Ranked 2 out of 5" award from MakeUseOf and "Ranked 1 out of 5" from Windows Central, which is no small feat.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Wi-Fi Routers, Techradar preferred the Google Wifi (2016), whereas reviewers at Tom's Guide, TrustedReviews, and hardwarezone.com.sg liked the ASUS RT-AC68U better. PCmag gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Google Wifi (2016) rating came from itpro.co.uk, whereas the ASUS RT-AC68U most impressed reviewers at TechGearLab; they earned scores of 10 and 9, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Wi-Fi Routers on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Wi-Fi Routers being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Google Wifi (2016) and ASUS RT-AC68U managed averages of 8.7 and 8.6 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Google Wifi (2016) vs. ASUS RT-AC68U comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
