Bose QuietComfort 25 (2014) vs beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (1985)

Analysis:

The Bose QuietComfort 25 (2014) is a great Closed-Back Headphone for its $119 asking price.

The beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (1985), however, while a reasonable product for $158, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Closed-Back Headphones in the $130 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Bose QuietComfort 25 (2014) got praised by Tom's Guide and Rtings - two highly trusted sources that perform in-depth hands-on testing. It was awarded the "Excellent noise cancellation for cheap" title from Tom's Guide and "Runner Up for Best Over-Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones Under $200 - Wired Alternative With Better Noise Isolation" from Rtings in their respective Closed-Back Headphone roundups.

As for the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (1985) - it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best Audiophile Headphones for 2020" roundup and was named its "Best for Budget-Minded Audiophiles", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Closed-Back Headphones, Techradar, CNET, and Rtings preferred the Bose QuietComfort 25 (2014), whereas reviewers at Head-fi liked the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (1985) better. PCmag and Pocket-lint gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Bose QuietComfort 25 (2014) rating came from Tom's Guide, whereas the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (1985) most impressed reviewers at Head-fi; they earned scores of 10 and 10, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Closed-Back Headphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Closed-Back Headphones being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Bose QuietComfort 25 (2014) and beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (1985) managed averages of 8.7 and 7.7 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Bose QuietComfort 25 (2014) vs. beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (1985) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
