Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) vs AfterShokz Trekz (2017)

Analysis:

The Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) is one of the very best Earphones that one can get for around $290. The AfterShokz Trekz Air (2017), however, while a very good choice at its $110 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) impressed reviewers from many highly trusted sources, including Rtings, SoundGuys, Tom's Guide, Wirecutter (NYTimes), and Wirecutter. It performed great in their Earphone roundups - it was named "Best Wired Noise Cancelling Earbuds" by Rtings, "Best All-Around" by SoundGuys, and "Best Bose noise-canceling earbuds" by Tom's Guide. That's high praise from sources that conduct in-depth hands-on testing.

Returning to the AfterShokz Trekz Air (2017) - it was really well-received by reviewers at TechGearLab and SoundGuys, which are among the most highly trusted sources on the internet and are known for their in-depth hands-on testing. It was named "Best for Unencumbered Hearing" by TechGearLab and "Ranked 2 out of 5" by SoundGuys, which points toward the AfterShokz Trekz Air (2017) being a high-quality product.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. CNET and Rtings, for example, preferred the Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013), while Techradar rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) got reviewed the highest by PCmag - it gave it a rating of 9, while the AfterShokz Trekz Air (2017) most impressed reviewers at Android Central, which gave it a score of 9.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013), with its 8.2 average, performed considerably better than most Earphones - the mean score for the product category being 7.3 out of 10 - while the AfterShokz Trekz Air (2017) managed an average of 7.1.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) vs. AfterShokz Trekz Air (2017) review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
