Bose SoundLink On-Ear (2014) vs beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro

Analysis:

The beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro and Bose SoundLink On-Ear (2014) make for very strong choices and are great Closed-Back Headphones for their respective $64 and $219 asking prices. Depending on how much you're willing to spend, either of these options will serve you well.

The beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Studio Headphones for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Budget-Minded Audiophiles", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Returning to the Bose SoundLink On-Ear (2014), it managed to impress reviewers from some of the internet's most highly trusted sources, Rtings and SoundGuys. It performed great in their hands-on roundups - it was named "Most Comfortable On-Ear Wireless Headphones" by Rtings and "Best Comfort" by SoundGuys. That's quite an achievement, especially coming from such high-quality sources.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Closed-Back Headphones. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - Head-fi favored the Bose SoundLink On-Ear (2014) over the beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro, whereas reviewers at PCmag haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro was best received by Headfonics - it gave it a score of 8.4, whereas the Bose SoundLink On-Ear (2014) got its highest score of 8.5 from reviewers at Head-fi.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Closed-Back Headphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Closed-Back Headphones being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro and Bose SoundLink On-Ear (2014) managed averages of 7.8 and 8.0 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct beyerdynamic DT 240 Pro vs. Bose SoundLink On-Ear (2014) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
