Brother HL-L23XX (2017) vs Epson SureColor P400

Analysis:

The Brother HL-L2395DW is an example of a great Home Printer at its $190 budget.

In the case of the Epson SureColor P400, however, we weren't able to find enough data to come to any reliable conclusions.

The Brother HL-L2395DW has managed to impress reviewers from two reliable and objective sources that conduct their own testing, namely CNET and Android Central. It did great in their roundups - it earned the "Best black-and-white printer" title from CNET, and "Ranked 1 out of 1" from Android Central, which marks it as a product that's worth considering.

As for the Epson SureColor P400, it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best Photo Printers for 2020" roundup and was named its "Best for Extra-Large, Pro-Grade Photo Prints", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like PCmag, and learned that they all showed a preference for the Epson SureColor P400.

Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two Home Printers received. We found that the Brother HL-L2395DW managed to earn a rating of 8.2 from CNET, whereas the Epson SureColor P400 got its highest, 9, score from reviewers at Digitaltrends.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Home Printers on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Home Printers being 7.1 out of 10, whereas the Brother HL-L2395DW and Epson SureColor P400 managed averages of 7.6 and 8.3 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Brother HL-L2395DW vs. Epson SureColor P400 comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
