Samsung 860 EVO Series SSDs vs Crucial MX300 Series SSDs

Analysis:

The Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB is one of the very best Internal SSDs that one can get for around $50. The Crucial SSD MX300 M.2 1TB, however, while a very good choice at its $280 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB has done really well in a number of roundups conducted by sources that perform reliable hands-on testing, like Reviewed, Tom's Hardware, Expert Reviews, and Android Central - it ended up getting the "Top Pick" title from Reviewed, "Best Consumer SATA SSD" from Tom's Hardware, and "The best SATA SSD you can buy" from Expert Reviews. That's high praise coming from reliable sources.

As for the Crucial SSD MX300 M.2 1TB - it was really well-received by reviewers at Laptop Mag, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best Laptop SSDs - Internal & External Hard Drive Upgrades" roundup and was named its "Best SSD Under $100", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Internal SSDs, including Techradar and TechSpot, preferred the Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB over the Crucial SSD MX300 M.2 1TB.

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB was liked best by Expert Reviews, which gave it a score of 10, while the Crucial SSD MX300 M.2 1TB got its highest, 8.4, score from TechSpot.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Internal SSDs on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Internal SSDs being 7.8 out of 10, whereas the Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB and Crucial SSD MX300 M.2 1TB managed averages of 8.8 and 8.1 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB vs. Crucial SSD MX300 M.2 1TB comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
