DJI Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom (2018) vs DJI Mavic Air (2018)
The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is one of the very best Drones that one can get for around $1,500. The DJI Mavic Air, however, while a very good choice at its $450 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.
The DJI Mavic 2 Pro managed to impress reviewers from many of the internet's most highly trusted sources, including TechGearLab, Digital Photography Review, PCmag, Wirecutter (NYTimes), and Digital Camera World. It performed really well in their Drone roundups - it was named "Top Pick" by TechGearLab, "Top Pick" by Digital Photography Review, and "Hasselblad Camera for the Best Photos" by PCmag. That's high praise coming from sources that conduct in-depth hands-on testing.
As for the DJI Mavic Air, it was really well-received by reviewers at TechGearLab, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best Drone" roundup and was named its "Best Balance of Quality and Price", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.
Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Drones, TrustedReviews, PCmag, The Verge, and Pocket-lint preferred the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, whereas reviewers at T3 liked the DJI Mavic Air better. TechGearLab, camerajabber.com, Techradar, and Tech Advisor gave them identical review scores.
We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest DJI Mavic 2 Pro rating came from TrustedReviews, whereas the DJI Mavic Air most impressed reviewers at camerajabber.com; they earned scores of 10 and 10, respectively.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Drones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Drones being 7.7 out of 10, whereas the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and DJI Mavic Air managed averages of 9.3 and 9.0 points, respectively.
Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct DJI Mavic 2 Pro vs. DJI Mavic Air comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
