HyperX Alloy FPS (2017) vs Drop CTRL (2018)

Analysis:

The HyperX Alloy FPS Pro (2017) is a great Wired Keyboard for its $69 asking price.

The Drop CTRL (2018), however, while a reasonable product for $220, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Wired Keyboards in the $190 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The HyperX Alloy FPS Pro (2017) was loved by reviewers at Tom's Hardware, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best Budget Mechanical Keyboards for 2021" roundup where it was named its "Best Budget TKL Mechanical Keyboard for Gaming", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for our Drop CTRL (2018) analysis - two highly trusted sources that perform well-thought-out hands-on testing have found it to be a great product - it earned the "Best customization in a snap" and "Other great mechanical keyboards" awards from Laptop Mag and Wirecutter (NYTimes), respectively, which is quite an impressive feat.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Wired Keyboards, including Tom's Guide, preferred the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro (2017) over the Drop CTRL (2018).

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The HyperX Alloy FPS Pro (2017) was liked best by Tom's Guide, which gave it a score of 8, while the Drop CTRL (2018) got its highest, 7, score from Tom's Guide.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro (2017), with its 8.0 average, performed considerably better than most Wired Keyboards - the mean score for the product category being 7.4 out of 10 - while the Drop CTRL (2018) managed an average of 7.0.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct HyperX Alloy FPS Pro (2017) vs. Drop CTRL (2018) review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
