Etymotic ER4 (2015) vs Shure SE215

Analysis:

The Etymotic ER4SR (2015) makes for an outstanding In-Ear Monitor at $251. The Shure SE215, however, while overall a good product for its asking price, doesn't quite manage to stand out from its competition - there are better In-Ear Monitors that can be found for around $85 available here.

The Etymotic ER4SR (2015) was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best earbuds of 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best Sound", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Returning to the Shure SE215, SoundGuys, a source that's known for its high-quality in-depth testing, has great things to say about it. In fact, it was named its "Best In-Ears" in its "Best headphones for ASMR" roundup, which is quite a feat.

We couldn't find any sources that tested both of these In-Ear Monitors, so we only analyzed how they performed in reviews from different sites.

We first examined which sources rated each of these best and found that the Etymotic ER4SR (2015) got its highest, 10, rating from Head-fi, while the Shure SE215 earned its best, 6.1, score from Rtings.

Lastly, in order to better compare them to their competition, we averaged out their review scores and found that the Etymotic ER4SR (2015) got received considerably better than the majority of other In-Ear Monitors - it earned an average of 8.5 out of 10 points, compared to the 7.7 overall rating of other In-Ear Monitors - while the Shure SE215 performed worse than most of its competitors, with its average review score of 6.1.

It's worth keeping in mind, however, that a direct Etymotic ER4SR (2015) vs. Shure SE215 comparison might not be realistic since they're priced differently and some sources have a tendency to review more expensive products better than cheaper ones.
