JBL LIVE 100 vs Etymotic ER4 (2016)

Analysis:

The JBL LIVE 100 was loved by reviewers at Wirecutter (NYTimes), a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Earbuds Under $50" roundup where it was named its "Also great", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Etymotic ER4XR, it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best Wired Headphones for 2020" roundup and was named its "Best for Sound Professionals", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We couldn't find any sources that tested both of these Canal Earphones, so we only analyzed how they performed in reviews from different sites.

We first examined which sources rated each of these best and found that the JBL LIVE 100 got its highest, 8.4, rating from Runnerclick, while the Etymotic ER4XR earned its best, 10, score from PCmag.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Canal Earphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Canal Earphones being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the JBL LIVE 100 and Etymotic ER4XR managed averages of 8.4 and 8.6 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct JBL LIVE 100 vs. Etymotic ER4XR comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
