Olympus OM-D E-M1 Cameras (2016) vs Fujifilm GFX Cameras (2017)
The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (2016) is a great Mirrorless Camera for its $949 asking price.
The Fujifilm GFX 50S (2017), however, is merely passable at its $5499 price point. If you're considering buying a Mirrorless Camera in the $5,600 range, you might want to check out some of its competitors.
The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (2016) was loved by reviewers at camerajabber.com, a trustworthy source that performs objective hands-on testing. It did great in their "Best Olympus cameras in 2021 - Camera Jabber" roundup - in fact, they named it their "Ranked 2 out of 6". That, by itself, points toward it being a noteworthy Mirrorless Camera.
Moving on to the Fujifilm GFX 50S (2017): it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like camerajabber.com, Digital Camera World, Photography Blog, TrustedReviews, Techradar, Digital Photography Review, and PCmag, enough for them to include them on those lists.
To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. Digital Camera World, Techradar, and Digitaltrends, for example, preferred the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (2016), while Photography Blog, TrustedReviews, Digital Photography Review, and PCmag rated both of them the same.
We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (2016) got reviewed the highest by Digital Camera World - it gave it a rating of 10, while the Fujifilm GFX 50S (2017) most impressed reviewers at camerajabber.com, which gave it a score of 10.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Mirrorless Cameras on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Mirrorless Cameras being 7.9 out of 10, whereas the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (2016) and Fujifilm GFX 50S (2017) managed averages of 8.8 and 8.7 points, respectively.
Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (2016) vs. Fujifilm GFX 50S (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
