Fujifilm X-Tx Cameras (2020) vs Sony α5x00 (Upper-entry APS-C) Mirrorless Cameras (2014)
The Fujifilm X-T4 (2020) was loved by reviewers from numerous highly trusted sources that perform in-depth objective testing, including Digital Photography Review, Rtings, Digital Camera World, The Phoblographer, and Wirecutter. It did great in their roundups - it was dubbed "Best mirrorless camera around $1500" by Digital Photography Review, "Best Mid-Range Camera For Landscape Photography" by Rtings, and "Ranked 1 out of 9" by Digital Camera World. That's high praise coming from sources of such caliber.
Moving on to the Sony α5100 (2014): it was loved by shotkit.com and TrustedReviews - two reliable sources that conduct their own in-depth testing. In fact, it was named "Top Pick" and "Ranked 1 out of 2" in their respective roundups, which points to it being a product worthy of consideration.
To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. PCmag and Techradar, for example, preferred the Fujifilm X-T4 (2020), while Photography Blog rated both of them the same.
We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Fujifilm X-T4 (2020) got reviewed the highest by ePHOTOzine - it gave it a rating of 10, while the Sony α5100 (2014) most impressed reviewers at Photography Blog, which gave it a score of 10.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Mirrorless Cameras on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Mirrorless Cameras being 7.9 out of 10, whereas the Fujifilm X-T4 (2020) and Sony α5100 (2014) managed averages of 9.3 and 8.0 points, respectively.
Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Fujifilm X-T4 (2020) vs. Sony α5100 (2014) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
