Adata SE800 Series SSDs (2019) vs Glyph Atom SSD

Analysis:

The Adata SE800 1TB is a great Portable SSD for its $129 asking price.

The Glyph Atom SSD 250GB, however, is merely passable at its $98 price point. If you're considering buying a Portable SSD in the $75 range, you might want to check out some of its competitors.

The Adata SE800 1TB was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best External SSDs for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Outdoorsy Types, Space-Strapped Shoppers", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Taking a look at the Glyph Atom SSD 250GB, it got featured in roundups from two reliable sources that conduct their own testing - CNET and Wirecutter (NYTimes) - but it fell short of earning a top spot in either.

We couldn't find any sources that tested both of these Portable SSDs, so we only analyzed how they performed in reviews from different sites.

We first examined which sources rated each of these best and found that the Adata SE800 1TB got its highest, 10, rating from Techradar, while the Glyph Atom SSD 250GB earned its best, 8.3, score from CNET.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Portable SSDs on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Portable SSDs being 7.8 out of 10, whereas the Adata SE800 1TB and Glyph Atom SSD 250GB managed averages of 9.2 and 8.3 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Adata SE800 1TB vs. Glyph Atom SSD 250GB comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
