RHA S500 (2017) vs Google Pixel Buds

Analysis:

While the RHA S500 (2017) makes for a fairly good Earphone for people with a $35 budget, we weren't able to find enough data on the Google Pixel Buds to come to any reliable conclusions.

In either case, we suggest that you look at some other options before committing to one of these.

If you'd nonetheless like to learn more about the RHA S500 (2017) and Google Pixel Buds, however, we wrote a summary of what we know about them:

While the RHA S500 (2017) wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. Techradar, SoundGuys, PCmag, Tech Advisor, Expert Reviews, Head-fi, What Hi-Fi?, and TrustedReviews have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.

As for the Google Pixel Buds, it was really well-received by reviewers at Tom's Guide, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best wireless earbuds for 2020" roundup and was named its "Smart buds with excellent Google integration", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. Techradar, SoundGuys, PCmag, Tech Advisor, Expert Reviews, and TrustedReviews, for example, preferred the RHA S500 (2017), while What Hi-Fi? rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the RHA S500 (2017) got reviewed the highest by Techradar - it gave it a rating of 9, while the Google Pixel Buds most impressed reviewers at Android Central, which gave it a score of 9.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the RHA S500 (2017), with its 7.6 average, performed considerably better than most Earphones - the mean score for the product category being 7.3 out of 10 - while the Google Pixel Buds managed an average of 6.4.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct RHA S500 (2017) vs. Google Pixel Buds review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
