GoPro Hero5 Black (2016) vs Sony FDR Action Cameras (2016)
The GoPro Hero5 Black (2016) is a great Action Camera for its $149 asking price.
The Sony FDR-X3000, however, while a reasonable product for $398, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Action Cameras in the $350 range, you might want to check out some better options.
The GoPro Hero5 Black (2016) was loved by reviewers at BikeRadar, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best GoPro and other action cameras" roundup where it was named its "Ranked 1 out of 7", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.
Returning to the Sony FDR-X3000, PCmag, a source that's known for its high-quality in-depth testing, has great things to say about it. In fact, it was named its "Best for Optical Video Stabilization" in its "The Best Action Cameras and Camcorders for 2021" roundup, which is quite a feat.
When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Action Cameras, including PCmag and Techradar, preferred the GoPro Hero5 Black (2016) over the Sony FDR-X3000.
We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The GoPro Hero5 Black (2016) was liked best by Expert Reviews, which gave it a score of 10, while the Sony FDR-X3000 got its highest, 9.2, score from Gadget Review.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Action Cameras on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Action Cameras being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the GoPro Hero5 Black (2016) and Sony FDR-X3000 managed averages of 8.7 and 7.9 points, respectively.
Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct GoPro Hero5 Black (2016) vs. Sony FDR-X3000 comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
