Grado SR60e (2014) vs HiFiMan Ananda (2018)

Analysis:

The Grado SR60e (2014) is one of the very best Open-Back Headphones that one can get for around $65. The HiFiMan Ananda (2018), however, while a very good choice at its $850 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Grado SR60e (2014) was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best on-ear headphones" roundup where it was named its "Best Sound", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Taking a look at the HiFiMan Ananda (2018), we found that it got praised by Rtings and PCmag - two sources that are known for their high-quality in-depth testing. The HiFiMan Ananda (2018) was named "Best Planar Magnetic Headphones" by Rtings and "Best for High-End Home Listeners" by PCmag in their respective Open-Back Headphone roundups; that suggests that it's a product that's worth considering.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Open-Back Headphones. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - Head-fi favored the HiFiMan Ananda (2018) over the Grado SR60e (2014), whereas reviewers at Rtings haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Grado SR60e (2014) was best received by SoundGuys - it gave it a score of 9.2, whereas the HiFiMan Ananda (2018) got its highest score of 10 from reviewers at PCmag.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Open-Back Headphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Open-Back Headphones being 7.8 out of 10, whereas the Grado SR60e (2014) and HiFiMan Ananda (2018) managed averages of 7.9 and 8.5 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Grado SR60e (2014) vs. HiFiMan Ananda (2018) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
