Oculus Quest 2 vs HTC Vive Cosmos (2019)

The Oculus Quest 2 makes for an outstanding VR Headset at $387. The HTC Vive Cosmos (2019), however, while overall a good product for its asking price, doesn't quite manage to stand out from its competition - there are better VR Headsets that can be found for around $960 available here.

The Oculus Quest 2 impressed reviewers from numerous sources that do high-quality in-depth testing, such as Wirecutter (NYTimes), TechGearLab, Tom's Guide, Tom's Hardware, Digital Camera World, Laptop Mag, PCmag, and CNET. It performed amazingly well in their roundups - it was dubbed "Top Pick" by Wirecutter (NYTimes), "Top Pick" by TechGearLab, and "Ranked 1 out of 3" by Tom's Guide. That, by itself, suggests that it's an excellent product.

Moving on to the HTC Vive Cosmos (2019): it has done really well in a number of roundups done by sources that perform objective and reliable testing, including TrustedReviews, PCGamesN, Expert Reviews, and techadvisor.com - it won the "Best mid-range VR headset" title from TrustedReviews, "best VR headset for modding" from PCGamesN, and "The best Oculus Rift S alternative" from Expert Reviews. That points towards it being a cut above most of its competitors.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. Expert Reviews, TechGearLab, TechSpot, PCmag, Lifewire, and Techradar, for example, preferred the Oculus Quest 2, while T3 rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Oculus Quest 2 got reviewed the highest by Expert Reviews - it gave it a rating of 10, while the HTC Vive Cosmos (2019) most impressed reviewers at techadvisor.com, which gave it a score of 9.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Oculus Quest 2, with its 8.9 average, performed considerably better than most VR Headsets - the mean score for the product category being 7.5 out of 10 - while the HTC Vive Cosmos (2019) managed an average of 7.2.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct Oculus Quest 2 vs. HTC Vive Cosmos (2019) review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
