Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) vs Huawei Mate 20 (2018)

Analysis:

The Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) and Huawei Mate 20 X (2018) make for very strong choices and are great Smartphones for their respective $409 and $885 asking prices. Depending on how much you're willing to spend, either of these options will serve you well.

While the Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. Android Central, GSMArena, PCWorld, PhoneArena, AVForums, TechSpot, The Verge, Notebookcheck.net, CNET, Photography Blog, Techradar, TrustedReviews, PCmag, Expert Reviews, Tom's Guide, Reviewed, Android Authority, and SoundGuys have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.

As for the Huawei Mate 20 X (2018) analysis - it impressed reviewers at Android Authority, a source that's known for its objective testing and well-thought-out methodology - it performed great in its "There are a lot of big phones out there, but which is right for you?" roundup and earned the "Best big Chinese phone" title.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. GSMArena and Techradar, for example, preferred the Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018), while Pocket-lint, TrustedReviews, and Expert Reviews rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) got reviewed the highest by What Hi-Fi? - it gave it a rating of 10, while the Huawei Mate 20 X (2018) most impressed reviewers at GSMArena, which gave it a score of 9.2.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) and Huawei Mate 20 X (2018) managed averages of 8.6 and 7.9 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) vs. Huawei Mate 20 X (2018) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
