Intel Optane Series 905P (2018) vs Crucial BX500 Series SSDs

Analysis:

The Intel Optane SSD 905P AIC 960GB is one of the very best Internal SSDs that one can get for around $1,200. The Crucial SSD BX500 480GB, however, while a very good choice at its $40 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Intel Optane SSD 905P AIC 960GB was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best PCI Express NVMe Solid State Drives (SSDs) for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Desktop Upgraders Seeking Max Speed", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Crucial SSD BX500 480GB - it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best SSDs for Upgrading Your Laptop in 2020" roundup and was named its "Best for SATA Budget Buyers", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Internal SSDs, including Tom's Hardware and PCmag, preferred the Intel Optane SSD 905P AIC 960GB over the Crucial SSD BX500 480GB.

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Intel Optane SSD 905P AIC 960GB was liked best by Tom's Hardware, which gave it a score of 9, while the Crucial SSD BX500 480GB got its highest, 8, score from Expert Reviews.

Lastly, in order to better compare them to their competition, we averaged out their review scores and found that the Intel Optane SSD 905P AIC 960GB got received considerably better than the majority of other Internal SSDs - it earned an average of 8.5 out of 10 points, compared to the 7.8 overall rating of other Internal SSDs - while the Crucial SSD BX500 480GB performed worse than most of its competitors, with its average review score of 6.0.

It's worth keeping in mind, however, that a direct Intel Optane SSD 905P AIC 960GB vs. Crucial SSD BX500 480GB comparison might not be realistic since they're priced differently and some sources have a tendency to review more expensive products better than cheaper ones.
