Intel Optane Series 900P (2017) vs Intel SSD Series 760p (2018)
The Intel Optane SSD 900P 2.5" 280GB is a great Internal SSD for its $461 asking price.
The Intel SSD 760p 2TB, however, while a reasonable product for $1576, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Internal SSDs in the $1,200 range, you might want to check out some better options.
The Intel Optane SSD 900P 2.5" 280GB was well-received by reviewers at Tom's Hardware, a trustworthy source that performs unbiased hands-on testing. It did great in their "Best SSDs 2020: From Budget SATA to Blazing-Fast NVMe" roundup - they named it their "Best Low-Capacity Add-in-Card SSD", which, by itself, suggests that it's a noteworthy product.
Taking a look at the Intel SSD 760p 2TB, it got featured in roundups from two reliable sources that conduct their own testing - Techradar and Wirecutter (NYTimes) - but it fell short of earning a top spot in either.
We couldn't find any sources that tested both of these Internal SSDs, so we only analyzed how they performed in reviews from different sites.
We first examined which sources rated each of these best and found that the Intel Optane SSD 900P 2.5" 280GB got its highest, 9.2, rating from PC Gamer, while the Intel SSD 760p 2TB earned its best, 10, score from Techradar.
Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Intel Optane SSD 900P 2.5" 280GB, with its 8.7 average, performed considerably better than most Internal SSDs - the mean score for the product category being 7.8 out of 10 - while the Intel SSD 760p 2TB managed an average of 10.0.
There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct Intel Optane SSD 900P 2.5" 280GB vs. Intel SSD 760p 2TB review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
