Jaybird X3 (2016) vs JLab JBuds Air (2018)

Analysis:

The Jaybird X3 (2016) is one of the very best Earphones that one can get for around $30. The JLab JBuds Air (2018), however, while a very good choice at its $50 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Jaybird X3 (2016) was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best Headphones For Back To School 2017" roundup where it was named its "Best Sweat Resistance", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Taking a look at the JLab JBuds Air (2018), we found that it got praised by Tom's Guide and PCmag - two sources that are known for their high-quality in-depth testing. The JLab JBuds Air (2018) was named "Best Truly Wireless Earphones Under $60" by Tom's Guide and "Best for Cheap True Wireless" by PCmag in their respective Earphone roundups; that suggests that it's a product that's worth considering.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. Techradar, PCmag, SoundGuys, and Rtings, for example, preferred the Jaybird X3 (2016), while Headphone Review rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Jaybird X3 (2016) got reviewed the highest by TrustedReviews - it gave it a rating of 9, while the JLab JBuds Air (2018) most impressed reviewers at Headphone Review, which gave it a score of 8.4.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Jaybird X3 (2016), with its 7.9 average, performed considerably better than most Earphones - the mean score for the product category being 7.3 out of 10 - while the JLab JBuds Air (2018) managed an average of 7.0.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct Jaybird X3 (2016) vs. JLab JBuds Air (2018) review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
