Etymotic ER4 (2015) vs Jays a-Jays Five (2013)

Analysis:

The Etymotic ER4SR (2015) is an exemplary product and one of the very best In-Ear Monitors at the $200 budget.

The Jays a-Jays Five (2013), however, doesn't seem to have enough data available for us to be able to draw any meaningful conclusions.

The Etymotic ER4SR (2015) was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best earbuds you can buy in 2021" roundup where it was named its "Best Sound", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Jays a-Jays Five (2013), it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at What Hi-Fi?, Head-fi, and TrustedReviews enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. Head-fi, What Hi-Fi?, and TrustedReviews, for example, preferred the Etymotic ER4SR (2015), while Digitaltrends rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Etymotic ER4SR (2015) got reviewed the highest by Head-fi - it gave it a rating of 10, while the Jays a-Jays Five (2013) most impressed reviewers at Digitaltrends, which gave it a score of 7.

Lastly, in order to better compare them to their competition, we averaged out their review scores and found that the Etymotic ER4SR (2015) got received considerably better than the majority of other In-Ear Monitors - it earned an average of 8.5 out of 10 points, compared to the 7.7 overall rating of other In-Ear Monitors - while the Jays a-Jays Five (2013) performed worse than most of its competitors, with its average review score of 6.3.

It's worth keeping in mind, however, that a direct Etymotic ER4SR (2015) vs. Jays a-Jays Five (2013) comparison might not be realistic since they're priced differently and some sources have a tendency to review more expensive products better than cheaper ones.
