JBL Live 650BTNC vs Audio-Technica ATH-ANC70

Analysis:

The JBL Live 650BTNC is a great Closed-Back Headphone for its $166 asking price.

The Audio-Technica ATH-ANC70, however, is merely passable at its $66 price point. If you're considering buying a Closed-Back Headphone in the $65 range, you might want to check out some of its competitors.

The JBL Live 650BTNC has done great in a couple of roundups conducted by highly trusted sources that perform objective in-depth testing, like Rtings, SoundGuys, and Tom's Guide - it earned the "Most Versatile JBL Headphones" title from Rtings, "Best bass" from SoundGuys, and "A cheaper noise-canceling alternative with warm sound" from Tom's Guide. Any product that's held in high regard by such reliable sources should be considered by anyone that's looking for a Closed-Back Headphone at this price point.

As for the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC70, it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at Rtings, Tom's Guide, and Reviewed enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Closed-Back Headphones, including Rtings, preferred the JBL Live 650BTNC over the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC70.

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The JBL Live 650BTNC was liked best by Gadget Review, which gave it a score of 9.2, while the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC70 got its highest, 6.3, score from Rtings.

Lastly, in order to better compare them to their competition, we averaged out their review scores and found that the JBL Live 650BTNC got received considerably better than the majority of other Closed-Back Headphones - it earned an average of 7.7 out of 10 points, compared to the 7.4 overall rating of other Closed-Back Headphones - while the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC70 performed worse than most of its competitors, with its average review score of 6.2.

It's worth keeping in mind, however, that a direct JBL Live 650BTNC vs. Audio-Technica ATH-ANC70 comparison might not be realistic since they're priced differently and some sources have a tendency to review more expensive products better than cheaper ones.
