Samsung 860 EVO Series SSDs vs Kingston KC2000

Analysis:

The Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB is one of the very best Internal SSDs that one can get for around $50. The Kingston KC2000 250GB, however, while a very good choice at its $65 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB has done great in various roundups conducted by reliable and unbiased sources that do their own testing, like Reviewed, Tom's Hardware, Expert Reviews, and Android Central - it earned the "Top Pick" title from Reviewed, "Best Consumer SATA SSD" from Tom's Hardware, and "The best SATA SSD you can buy" from Expert Reviews.

As for the Kingston KC2000 250GB, it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best PCI Express NVMe Solid State Drives (SSDs) for 2020" roundup and was named its "Best for Budget Upgraders", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like PCWorld, and learned that they all showed a preference for the Kingston KC2000 250GB.

Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two Internal SSDs received. We found that the Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB managed to earn a rating of 10 from Expert Reviews, whereas the Kingston KC2000 250GB got its highest, 9, score from reviewers at PCWorld.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Internal SSDs on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Internal SSDs being 7.8 out of 10, whereas the Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB and Kingston KC2000 250GB managed averages of 8.8 and 8.2 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" 250GB vs. Kingston KC2000 250GB comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
