Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) vs Marshall Mode (2015)

Analysis:

The Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) is one of the very best Canal Earphones that one can get for around $240. The Marshall Mode (2015), however, while a very good choice at its $30 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) has done great in a couple of roundups conducted by highly trusted sources that perform objective in-depth testing, like Rtings, SoundGuys, Tom's Guide, and Wirecutter - it earned the "Best Wired Noise Cancelling Earbuds" title from Rtings, "Best All-Around" from SoundGuys, and "Best Bose noise-canceling earbuds" from Tom's Guide. Any product that's held in high regard by such reliable sources should be considered by anyone that's looking for a Canal Earphone at this price point.

As for the Marshall Mode (2015) - it was really well-received by reviewers at Wirecutter, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best Headphones" roundup and was named its "Best earbuds under $100", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Canal Earphones, PCmag preferred the Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013), whereas reviewers at Head-fi liked the Marshall Mode (2015) better. Digitaltrends gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) rating came from PCmag, whereas the Marshall Mode (2015) most impressed reviewers at Head-fi; they earned scores of 9 and 9, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Canal Earphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Canal Earphones being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) and Marshall Mode (2015) managed averages of 8.2 and 8.4 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Bose QuietComfort 20 (2013) vs. Marshall Mode (2015) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
