Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic vs Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboards (2009)

Analysis:

The Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic 5KV-00001 is a great Ergonomic Keyboard for its $64 asking price.

The Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboard (2009), however, while a reasonable product for $41, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Ergonomic Keyboards in the $40 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic 5KV-00001 has managed to do great in various roundups conducted by reviewers from highly trusted sources that perform objective in-depth testing, like TechGearLab, Wirecutter (NYTimes), and Rtings - it was dubbed "Best Palm and Wrist Cushion" by TechGearLab, "Budget pick" by Wirecutter (NYTimes), and "Runner Up for Best Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard - More Affordable Alternative" by Rtings. Any product that's held in such high regard by some of the most reliable sources should be considered by everyone who's looking for a Ergonomic Keyboard at this price.

Returning to the Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboard (2009), TechGearLab, a source that's known for its high-quality in-depth testing, has great things to say about it. In fact, it was named its "An Option on the Quieter Side" in its "Best Ergonomic Keyboard of 2020" roundup, which is quite a feat.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Ergonomic Keyboards, including Lifewire, preferred the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic 5KV-00001 over the Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboard (2009).

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic 5KV-00001 was liked best by Lifewire, which gave it a score of 8.8, while the Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboard (2009) got its highest, 7.6, score from Lifewire.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Ergonomic Keyboards on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Ergonomic Keyboards being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic 5KV-00001 and Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboard (2009) managed averages of 7.9 and 7.6 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic 5KV-00001 vs. Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboard (2009) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
