Google Pixel 4 / Pixel 4 XL (2019) vs Moto G6 (2018)

Analysis:

The Google Pixel 4 (2019) is a relatively good Smartphone for people that are willing to spend around $370. The Moto G6 Play (2018), by contrast, is quite unremarkable and doesn't stand out in any meaningful way from other products at this price point.

In both cases, however, we recommend that you take look at some other options at the $370 and $160 budget ranges; in all likelihood you'll find some better alternatives.

If you're still interested in learning more about the Google Pixel 4 (2019) and Moto G6 Play (2018), however, we wrote a summary of what we know about them:

While the Google Pixel 4 (2019) wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. Android Central, DXOMARK, PhoneArena, PCmag, Notebookcheck.net, CNET, The Verge, What Hi-Fi?, Expert Reviews, Techradar, creativebloq.com, slashgear.com, Tom's Guide, TechSpot, itpro.co.uk, TrustedReviews, reviewgeek.com, Tech Advisor, Digital Camera World, Android Authority, and Wirecutter (NYTimes) have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.

As for the Moto G6 Play (2018), it was really well-received by reviewers at CNET, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best AT&T phones of 2021: Apple, Samsung and more compared" roundup and was named its "Super affordable with a great battery", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Smartphones, PhoneArena, PCmag, Notebookcheck.net, CNET, and Digitaltrends preferred the Google Pixel 4 (2019), whereas reviewers at TrustedReviews and Tech Advisor liked the Moto G6 Play (2018) better. Pocket-lint, Expert Reviews, Techradar, and Android Central gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Google Pixel 4 (2019) rating came from PhoneArena, whereas the Moto G6 Play (2018) most impressed reviewers at TrustedReviews; they earned scores of 9 and 9, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Google Pixel 4 (2019) and Moto G6 Play (2018) managed averages of 8.1 and 7.9 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Google Pixel 4 (2019) vs. Moto G6 Play (2018) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
