Igloo MaxCold vs Orca Hard Cooler

Analysis:

The Igloo MaxCold 50 qt. is a great Hard Cooler for its $48 asking price.

The Orca 58-Qt Cooler, however, while a reasonable product for $339, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Hard Coolers in the $340 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Igloo MaxCold 50 qt. has managed to impress reviewers from two reliable and objective sources that conduct their own testing, namely Your Best Digs and CNET. It did great in their roundups - it earned the "4. Budget pick" title from Your Best Digs, and "The best cooler under $100" from CNET, which marks it as a product that's worth considering.

Returning to the Orca 58-Qt Cooler, OutdoorGearLab, a source that's known for its high-quality in-depth testing, has great things to say about it. In fact, it was named its "Ranked 2 out of 16" in its "The Best Coolers and Ice Chests of 2020" roundup, which is quite a feat.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Hard Coolers, including CNET, preferred the Igloo MaxCold 50 qt. over the Orca 58-Qt Cooler.

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Igloo MaxCold 50 qt. was liked best by CNET, which gave it a score of 8.2, while the Orca 58-Qt Cooler got its highest, 8.1, score from CNET.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Hard Coolers on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Hard Coolers being 6.1 out of 10, whereas the Igloo MaxCold 50 qt. and Orca 58-Qt Cooler managed averages of 8.2 and 7.9 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Igloo MaxCold 50 qt. vs. Orca 58-Qt Cooler comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
