Nikon Z 6 Cameras (2018) vs Panasonic Lumix G__ series Cameras (2017)

Analysis:

The Nikon Z 6 (2018) makes for a good, if unremarkable, Mirrorless Camera for people with a $1,700 budget.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 (2017), however, is merely mediocre at its $647 asking price, when compared to similarly priced products, and won't satisfy the needs of most people.

In either case, we suggest that you first take a look at some other options at the $1,700 and $540 price points before committing to one of these - it's likely that you'll be able to find some better alternatives.

If you're still interested in learning more about the Nikon Z 6 (2018) and Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 (2017), however, we wrote a summary of what we could find about them:

The Nikon Z 6 (2018) managed to impress reviewers from two reliable and unbiased sources that conduct their own hands-on testing, namely shotkit.com and Gear Patrol. It performed great in their roundups - it earned the "BEST BUDGET FULL FRAME" title from shotkit.com and "Ranked 2 out of 2" from Gear Patrol, which makes it a product worthy of consideration.

As for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 (2017) - it was really well-received by reviewers at Wirecutter, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "For All-Star Kids Sports Photos, Ditch Your Smartphone" roundup and was named its "Ranked 2 out of 5", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Mirrorless Cameras, including Photography Blog, Techradar, and DXOMARK, preferred the Nikon Z 6 (2018) over the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 (2017).

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Nikon Z 6 (2018) was liked best by Digital Camera World, which gave it a score of 10, while the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 (2017) got its highest, 9, score from Photography Blog.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Mirrorless Cameras on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Mirrorless Cameras being 7.9 out of 10, whereas the Nikon Z 6 (2018) and Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 (2017) managed averages of 9.5 and 8.5 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Nikon Z 6 (2018) vs. Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
