Samsung 850 EVO Series SSDs vs Crucial BX500 Series SSDs

Analysis:

The Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB and Crucial SSD BX500 480GB make for very strong choices and are great Internal SSDs for their respective $149 and $59 asking prices. Depending on how much you're willing to spend, either of these options will serve you well.

While the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. TrustedReviews, Techradar, CNET, TechSpot, PC Gamer, Expert Reviews, PCmag, PCWorld, Reviewed, and Laptop Mag have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.

As for the Crucial SSD BX500 480GB, it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best SSDs for Upgrading Your Laptop in 2020" roundup and was named its "Best for SATA Budget Buyers", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. PCmag, for example, preferred the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB, while Expert Reviews rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB got reviewed the highest by TrustedReviews - it gave it a rating of 9, while the Crucial SSD BX500 480GB most impressed reviewers at Expert Reviews, which gave it a score of 8.

Lastly, in order to better compare them to their competition, we averaged out their review scores and found that the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB got received considerably better than the majority of other Internal SSDs - it earned an average of 8.4 out of 10 points, compared to the 7.8 overall rating of other Internal SSDs - while the Crucial SSD BX500 480GB performed worse than most of its competitors, with its average review score of 6.0.

It's worth keeping in mind, however, that a direct Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB vs. Crucial SSD BX500 480GB comparison might not be realistic since they're priced differently and some sources have a tendency to review more expensive products better than cheaper ones.
