Samsung 860 Pro Series SSDs vs Intel Optane Series 905P (2018)

Analysis:

The Samsung SSD 860 Pro 4TB is a great Internal Hard Drive for its $1175 asking price.

The Intel Optane SSD 905P M.2 380GB, however, while a reasonable product for $578, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Internal Hard Drives in the $540 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Samsung SSD 860 Pro 4TB managed to impress reviewers from two reliable and unbiased sources that conduct their own hands-on testing, namely Techradar and Windows Central. It performed great in their roundups - it earned the "The best SATA SSD is cheaper than you think" title from Techradar and "Ranked 1 out of 2" from Windows Central, which makes it a product worthy of consideration.

As for the Intel Optane SSD 905P M.2 380GB, it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best of Computex 2018" roundup and was named its "9. Best Storage", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Internal Hard Drives. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - PCmag favored the Intel Optane SSD 905P M.2 380GB over the Samsung SSD 860 Pro 4TB, whereas reviewers at Tom's Hardware haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Samsung SSD 860 Pro 4TB was best received by Tom's Hardware - it gave it a score of 9, whereas the Intel Optane SSD 905P M.2 380GB got its highest score of 9 from reviewers at Tom's Hardware.
