Samsung 860 Pro Series SSDs vs Sony G-Series SSDs 2017

Analysis:

The Samsung SSD 860 Pro 512GB is an example of a great Internal SSD at its $70 budget.

In the case of the Sony SSD G-Series 480GB, however, we weren't able to find enough data to come to any reliable conclusions.

The Samsung SSD 860 Pro 512GB was loved by reviewers at Tom's Hardware, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best SSDs 2021: From Budget SATA to Blazing-Fast NVMe" roundup where it was named its "Best Prosumer SATA SSD", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Sony SSD G-Series 480GB, it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at PCWorld, PCmag, and Tom's Hardware enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.

We examined all of the review data that we could find and first took a look at sources that reviewed both of them, like PCWorld and PCmag, and found that they haven't shown a preference for either product.

Then we checked which sources liked these two Internal SSDs best and found that the Samsung SSD 860 Pro 512GB got its highest, 9, review score from reviewers at Techradar, whereas the Sony SSD G-Series 480GB earned its best score of 8 from PCWorld.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Samsung SSD 860 Pro 512GB, with its 8.0 average, performed considerably better than most Internal SSDs - the mean score for the product category being 7.8 out of 10 - while the Sony SSD G-Series 480GB managed an average of 7.3.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct Samsung SSD 860 Pro 512GB vs. Sony SSD G-Series 480GB review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
