Kingston KC2000 vs Samsung 960 EVO Series SSDs

Analysis:

The Kingston KC2000 2TB is one of the very best Internal SSDs that one can get for around $360. The Samsung SSD 960 EVO 500GB, however, while a very good choice at its $190 price point, falls just short of being remarkable.

The Kingston KC2000 2TB was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Internal SSDs for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Budget Upgraders Looking for a PCIe/NVMe Drive", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Samsung SSD 960 EVO 500GB - it was really well-received by reviewers at Laptop Mag, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best Laptop SSDs - Internal & External Hard Drive Upgrades" roundup and was named its "Best PCIe SSD", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We examined all of the review data that we could find and first took a look at sources that reviewed both of them, like PCmag, and found that they haven't shown a preference for either product.

Then we checked which sources liked these two Internal SSDs best and found that the Kingston KC2000 2TB got its highest, 9, review score from reviewers at PCWorld, whereas the Samsung SSD 960 EVO 500GB earned its best score of 10 from TrustedReviews.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Internal SSDs on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Internal SSDs being 7.8 out of 10, whereas the Kingston KC2000 2TB and Samsung SSD 960 EVO 500GB managed averages of 8.3 and 9.0 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Kingston KC2000 2TB vs. Samsung SSD 960 EVO 500GB comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
