Samsung 970 EVO Plus Series SSDs vs Samsung 960 EVO Series SSDs

Analysis:

The Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB is an exemplary product and one of the very best Internal SSDs at the $120 budget.

The Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB, however, doesn't seem to have enough data available for us to be able to draw any meaningful conclusions.

The Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best PCI Express NVMe Solid State Drives (SSDs) for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Performance-Minded Upgraders", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB - it was really well-received by reviewers at Laptop Mag, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best Laptop SSDs - Internal & External Hard Drive Upgrades" roundup and was named its "Best PCIe SSD", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Internal SSDs. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - TechSpot favored the Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB over the Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB, whereas reviewers at PCmag haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB was best received by Techradar - it gave it a score of 10, whereas the Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB got its highest score of 10 from reviewers at TrustedReviews.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Internal SSDs on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Internal SSDs being 7.8 out of 10, whereas the Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB and Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB managed averages of 8.8 and 9.0 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB vs. Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
