Samsung 850 EVO Series SSDs vs Samsung 960 Pro Series SSDs

Analysis:

The Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB and Samsung SSD 960 Pro 1TB make for very strong choices and are great Internal SSDs for their respective $149 and $359 asking prices. Depending on how much you're willing to spend, either of these options will serve you well.

The Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB was loved by reviewers at Laptop Mag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Newegg Deals" roundup where it was named its "Ranked 1 out of 5", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Samsung SSD 960 Pro 1TB, it was really well-received by reviewers at Laptop Mag, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best Laptop SSDs - Internal & External Hard Drive Upgrades" roundup and was named its "Best High-Performance SSD", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Internal SSDs. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - Expert Reviews, TechSpot, and PCWorld favored the Samsung SSD 960 Pro 1TB over the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB, whereas reviewers at TrustedReviews and Techradar haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB was best received by TrustedReviews - it gave it a score of 9, whereas the Samsung SSD 960 Pro 1TB got its highest score of 10 from reviewers at Expert Reviews.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Internal SSDs on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Internal SSDs being 7.8 out of 10, whereas the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB and Samsung SSD 960 Pro 1TB managed averages of 8.4 and 9.1 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB vs. Samsung SSD 960 Pro 1TB comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
