Samsung 970 EVO Series SSDs vs Samsung 960 Pro Series SSDs

Analysis:

The Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB and Samsung SSD 960 Pro 512GB make for very strong choices and are great Internal SSDs for their respective $99 and $220 asking prices. Depending on how much you're willing to spend, either of these options will serve you well.

The Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Cheap SSDs for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Cash-Conscious Creative Professionals", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Samsung SSD 960 Pro 512GB, it was really well-received by reviewers at Laptop Mag, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best Laptop SSDs - Internal & External Hard Drive Upgrades" roundup and was named its "Best High-Performance SSD", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Internal SSDs, Techradar and PCmag preferred the Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB, whereas reviewers at PCWorld liked the Samsung SSD 960 Pro 512GB better. TrustedReviews gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB rating came from Techradar, whereas the Samsung SSD 960 Pro 512GB most impressed reviewers at Expert Reviews; they earned scores of 10 and 10, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Internal SSDs on the market. Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB vs. Samsung SSD 960 Pro 512GB comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
