Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) vs Google Pixel 2 / Pixel 2 XL (2017)

Analysis:

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) makes for a good, if unremarkable, Smartphone for people with a $330 budget.

The Google Pixel 2 (2017), however, is merely mediocre at its $599 asking price, when compared to similarly priced products, and won't satisfy the needs of most people.

In either case, we suggest that you first take a look at some other options at the $330 and $670 price points before committing to one of these - it's likely that you'll be able to find some better alternatives.

If you're still interested in learning more about the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) and Google Pixel 2 (2017), however, we wrote a summary of what we could find about them:

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) was loved by reviewers at Tom's Guide, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The 11 Best Verizon Phones, Ranked Top to Bottom" roundup where it was named its "Ranked 3 out of 11", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for our analysis of the Google Pixel 2 (2017) - it has done great in a number of roundups done by unbiased sources that conduct their own testing, like Android Central, Techradar, and Android Authority - it was named "Best for updates" by Android Central, "Best phone for photos" by Techradar, and "Ranked 1 out of 4" by Android Authority.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Smartphones, GSMArena, Android Authority, PCmag, Techradar, TrustedReviews, and CNET preferred the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017), whereas reviewers at WIRED and Android Central liked the Google Pixel 2 (2017) better. Photography Blog, Pocket-lint, PhoneArena, Digitaltrends, and Expert Reviews gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) rating came from PCWorld, whereas the Google Pixel 2 (2017) most impressed reviewers at WIRED; they earned scores of 10 and 9, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) and Google Pixel 2 (2017) managed averages of 8.4 and 8.3 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) vs. Google Pixel 2 (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
