Huawei Mate 30 (2019) vs Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017)

Analysis:

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro (2019) is a great Smartphone for its $699 asking price.

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017), however, while a reasonable product for $334, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Smartphones in the $280 range, you might want to check out some better options.

While the Huawei Mate 30 Pro (2019) wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. Notebookcheck.net, Android Authority, GSMArena, Expert Reviews, AVForums, Digital Camera World, Techradar, CNET, Tom's Guide, DXOMARK, Tech Advisor, and Android Central have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017), it was really well-received by reviewers at Tom's Guide, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The 11 Best Verizon Phones, Ranked Top to Bottom" roundup and was named its "Ranked 3 out of 11", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Smartphones. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - GSMArena, Android Authority, hardwarezone.com.sg, Techradar, Tom's Guide, CNET, and AVForums favored the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) over the Huawei Mate 30 Pro (2019), whereas reviewers at Expert Reviews haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Huawei Mate 30 Pro (2019) was best received by Notebookcheck.net - it gave it a score of 8.9, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) got its highest score of 10 from reviewers at PCWorld.

Lastly, in order to better compare them to the rest of their competition, we averaged out their review scores. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) managed to get 8.4 out of 10 - considerably better than the 7.5 review average of Smartphones in general - whereas the Huawei Mate 30 Pro (2019) earned 6.9 points.

It should be said that doing a direct Huawei Mate 30 Pro (2019) vs. Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair due to the difference in their prices - some sources don't put much weight on value for money and thus tend to give better review scores to more expensive products.
