Analysis:

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) is widely considered to be a great Smartphone at its $350 budget. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017), however, while also a good product at this price point, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well.

While the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) wasn't able to make it to the very top of any roundups from sources that perform quality hands-on testing, it still got featured in a large number of them. Techradar, Expert Reviews, TechSpot, GSMArena, Android Authority, CNET, TrustedReviews, Tom's Guide, PCmag, PhoneArena, and DXOMARK have all deemed it worthy of a place on their respective shortlists.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017), it was really well-received by reviewers at Tom's Guide, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The 11 Best Verizon Phones, Ranked Top to Bottom" roundup and was named its "Ranked 3 out of 11", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

For a direct Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) vs. Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) comparison, we took a look at sources that tested both and found that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) got reviewed better by Pocket-lint, Techradar, Expert Reviews, TechSpot, Android Authority, and CNET, whereas the reviewers at GSMArena preferred the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017). Reviewers at T3, What Hi-Fi?, TrustedReviews, Tom's Guide, PCmag, PhoneArena, Gadget Review, and Digitaltrends haven't shown a preference for either.

We also took a look at which sources liked these two products the most. We found that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) received its best, 10, rating from T3, while the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) got its highest score of 10 from PCWorld.
