Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) vs Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017)

Analysis:

The Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) makes for an outstanding Smartphone at $409. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017), however, while overall a good product for its asking price, doesn't quite manage to stand out from its competition - there are better Smartphones that can be found for around $280 available here.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) has managed to impress reviewers from some of the most highly trusted sources on the internet, including Tom's Guide and SoundGuys. It performed great in their in-depth hands-on roundups - it was awarded the "A great small flagship now on the cheap" title by Tom's Guide and "Amazing value" by Android Central in their respective Smartphone roundups. That's high praise, especially when coming from such high-quality sources.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) - it was really well-received by reviewers at Tom's Guide, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The 11 Best Verizon Phones, Ranked Top to Bottom" roundup and was named its "Ranked 3 out of 11", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Smartphones, Gadget Review, Android Central, and AVForums preferred the Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018), whereas reviewers at PCWorld, GSMArena, TrustedReviews, Techradar, PCmag, Photography Blog, CNET, and TechSpot liked the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) better. T3, What Hi-Fi?, slashgear.com, Pocket-lint, PhoneArena, Digitaltrends, WIRED, and Expert Reviews gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) rating came from T3, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) most impressed reviewers at PCWorld; they earned scores of 10 and 10, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) and Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) managed averages of 8.7 and 8.4 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung Galaxy S9 (2018) vs. Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
