The Huawei P40 (2020) is a great Smartphone for its $799 asking price.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 (2017), on the other hand, is not worth its $289 price tag and should be avoided by most people. We strongly suggest that you take a look at some better alternatives if you're considering spending around $340 on a Smartphone.
The Huawei P40 (2020) was loved by reviewers at DXOMARK, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The best smartphones for audio playback and recording 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for recording memos and meetings", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S8 (2017) - it impressed reviewers from a large number of trusted sources that are known for their reliable hands-on testing, including Phandroid, slashgear.com, Techradar, MakeUseOf, GadgetMatch, Gear Patrol, Popular Mechanics, Android Central, 9to5Google, and The Verge. It performed great in their respective roundups - it got named "Top Pick" by Phandroid, "Best Samsung phone #5" by slashgear.com, and "Best Samsung phone battery" by Techradar. Such endorsement from trusted sources marks it as a product that's worthy of consideration.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Huawei P40 (2020) and Samsung Galaxy S8 (2017) managed averages of 7.8 and 8.8 points, respectively.
