Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (2020) vs Samsung Galaxy S8 (2017)

Analysis:

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (2020) is a great Smartphone for its $1869 asking price.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (2017), on the other hand, is not worth its $410 price tag and should be avoided by most people. We strongly suggest that you take a look at some better alternatives if you're considering spending around $460 on a Smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (2020) has managed to impress reviewers from some of the most highly trusted sources on the internet, including Digital Camera World and CNET. It performed great in their in-depth hands-on roundups - it was awarded the "Best foldable phone" title by Android Central and "Most polished foldable available" by creativebloq.com in their respective Smartphone roundups. That's high praise, especially when coming from such high-quality sources.

Taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (2017), we found that it impressed reviewers from many sources with a history of conducting objective hands-on testing, such as Techradar, Reviewed, MakeUseOf, Android Central, GadgetMatch, and Android Authority. It performed great in their roundups - it was dubbed "Best Samsung phone battery" by Techradar, "Ranked 1 out of 5" by Reviewed, and "Ranked 2 out of 5" by MakeUseOf; quite an achievement.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Smartphones, Android Authority preferred the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (2020), whereas reviewers at T3, zdnet.com, Notebookcheck.net, Tom's Guide, PCmag, PhoneArena, hardwarezone.com.sg, slashgear.com, The Verge, Techradar, and TechSpot liked the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (2017) better. Digitaltrends gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (2020) rating came from zdnet.com, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (2017) most impressed reviewers at Expert Reviews; they earned scores of 9.3 and 10, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (2020) and Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (2017) managed averages of 8.4 and 8.8 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (2020) vs. Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
