The Sonos Beam Soundbar (2018) (BEAM1US1BLK) makes for an outstanding Soundbar at $448. The Samsung HW-Q90R Soundbar (2019), however, while overall a good product for its asking price, doesn't quite manage to stand out from its competition - there are better Soundbars that can be found for around $740 available here.
The Sonos Beam Soundbar (2018) (BEAM1US1BLK) has done great in quite a few roundups from some of the most highly trusted sources available, such as TechGearLab, AVForums, CNET, and Consumer Reports, which perform high-quality in-depth testing. It got awarded the "Best for Small Spaces" title by TechGearLab, "Best Soundbar Under £1,000 2018" by AVForums, and "Best for multiroom music" by CNET in their respective roundups. Earning that much praise from such respected sources is undoubtedly an impressive accomplishment.
As for the Samsung HW-Q90R Soundbar (2019) analysis - it impressed reviewers at Android Central, a source that's known for its objective testing and well-thought-out methodology - it performed great in its "Best Dolby Atmos Soundbars in 2020" roundup and earned the "Ranked 1 out of 6" title.
We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Soundbars. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - AVForums and Techradar favored the Samsung HW-Q90R Soundbar (2019) over the Sonos Beam Soundbar (2018) (BEAM1US1BLK), whereas reviewers at TrustedReviews and T3 haven't shown a preference for either.
Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Sonos Beam Soundbar (2018) (BEAM1US1BLK) was best received by What Hi-Fi? - it gave it a score of 10, whereas the Samsung HW-Q90R Soundbar (2019) got its highest score of 10 from reviewers at AVForums.
Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Sonos Beam Soundbar (2018) (BEAM1US1BLK), with its 8.8 average, performed considerably better than most Soundbars - the mean score for the product category being 7.6 out of 10 - while the Samsung HW-Q90R Soundbar (2019) managed an average of 10.0.
