AKG N700NC vs Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004)

Analysis:

The AKG N700NC M2 is an example of a great Closed-Back Headphone at its $340 budget.

In the case of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004), however, we weren't able to find enough data to come to any reliable conclusions.

The AKG N700NC M2 was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best over-ear headphones of 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best on-the-go", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Returning to the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004) - it was really well-received by reviewers at PCmag and SoundGuys, which are among the most highly trusted sources on the internet and are known for their in-depth hands-on testing. It was named "Best for Inexpensive Mastering" by PCmag and "Best bang for your buck" by SoundGuys, which points toward the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004) being a high-quality product.

We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like PCmag, and learned that they all showed a preference for the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004).

Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two Closed-Back Headphones received. We found that the AKG N700NC M2 managed to earn a rating of 8 from Expert Reviews, whereas the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004) got its highest, 9, score from reviewers at PCmag.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the AKG N700NC M2, with its 8.0 average, performed considerably better than most Closed-Back Headphones - the mean score for the product category being 7.4 out of 10 - while the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004) managed an average of 7.2.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct AKG N700NC M2 vs. Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (2004) review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
