The Sennheiser Momentum 3 is a great choice for people with a $280 budget. The Sennheiser HD558, however, is merely decent when compared to its direct competitors.
The Sennheiser Momentum 3 got praised by SoundGuys and Rtings - two highly trusted sources that perform in-depth hands-on testing. It was awarded the "Best style" title from SoundGuys and "Best Sennheiser Headphones For Casual Use" from Rtings in their respective Over-Ear Headphone roundups.
As for the Sennheiser HD558, it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at Expert Reviews, Head-fi, and What Hi-Fi? enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.
For a direct Sennheiser Momentum 3 vs. Sennheiser HD558 comparison, we took a look at sources that tested both and found that the Sennheiser Momentum 3 got reviewed better by What Hi-Fi?, whereas the reviewers at Head-fi preferred the Sennheiser HD558.
