Beats Powerbeats3 (2016) vs Shure SE112 (2014)

Analysis:

The Beats Powerbeats3 (2016) is a great Earphone for its $79 asking price.

The Shure SE112 (2014), however, while a reasonable product for $49, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Earphones in the $40 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Beats Powerbeats3 (2016) has managed to impress reviewers from some of the most highly trusted sources on the internet, including Rtings and TechGearLab. It performed great in their in-depth hands-on roundups - it was awarded the "Best Bluetooth Earbuds For iPhone Under $100" title by Rtings and "Extra Stability for Less" by TechGearLab in their respective Earphone roundups. That's high praise, especially when coming from such high-quality sources.

As for the Shure SE112 (2014) - it was really well-received by reviewers at SoundGuys, a great source that's known for conducting high-quality in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best earbuds under $50 of 2020" roundup and was named its "Best Sound", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Earphones. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - SoundGuys favored the Shure SE112 (2014) over the Beats Powerbeats3 (2016), whereas reviewers at Techradar haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Beats Powerbeats3 (2016) was best received by Runnerclick - it gave it a score of 9.2, whereas the Shure SE112 (2014) got its highest score of 9 from reviewers at AVForums.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Earphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Earphones being 7.3 out of 10, whereas the Beats Powerbeats3 (2016) and Shure SE112 (2014) managed averages of 7.7 and 7.8 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Beats Powerbeats3 (2016) vs. Shure SE112 (2014) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
